JOB TITLE: Specification Sales Manager

Summary of Role

The Specification Sales Manager is a crucial leadership position at Geosynthetics Ltd. This role combines technical expertise, sales acumen, and team management skills to drive the growth of three specification-driven departments within the organisation.

The Specification Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to ensure that Geosynthetics Ltd.’s products are specified (or chosen) for use in various construction projects by influencing key decision-makers such as consultant engineers, civil engineering contractors, councils, and agencies.

As the Specification Sales Manager, you will lead a team of eight professionals (with plans for expansion), guiding them to achieve both individual and departmental sales targets. Your role will involve:

· Overseeing daily operations of three specification-driven departments

· Coaching and mentoring team members to success

· Developing and maintaining relationships with key influencers in the construction industry

· Ensuring technical recommendations are converted into orders

· Collaborating with various departments, including marketing and engineering, to promote the company’s products and services

You will work effectively within the team to achieve personal and department objectives in line with strategy and embrace the Company Vision, Goals, Values & Behaviours.

This position requires a unique blend of technical knowledge in the construction industry, sales expertise, and strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, a passion for achieving targets, motivating teams, and driving growth in a dynamic, specification-driven sales environment.

By taking on this role, you’ll play an integral part in shaping the future growth of Geosynthetics Ltd, while working with cutting-edge geosynthetic products that contribute to innovative construction solutions.

 

Key responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management:

· Oversee three successful specification-driven departments, managing 8 team members with plans for expansion.

· Drive the team to achieve 100% of targets and ensure accurate forecasting.

· Conduct monthly one-on-ones and yearly Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) to ensure team growth.

· Lead department meetings using established KPIs and measures.

Sales and Account Management:

· Develop new and nurture existing targeted accounts.

· Maintain and increase the conversion rate of technical recommendations to orders.

· Provide pre and post-site advice, visits, and assistance to clients.

· Ensure market-leading standards of customer care and satisfaction.

Technical and Operational:

· Provide technical assistance and recommendations, utilizing the engineering department when appropriate.

· Regularly review and optimise the CRM system to drive performance.

· Manage lead flow proactively within agreed timescales.

Strategic and Cross-functional Collaboration:

· Assist with the implementation of department sales and marketing strategies.

· Maximise collaboration with the Marketing department to promote the team, company, products, and applications.

· Deliver monthly reports to the Senior Management team.

Additional Responsibilities:

· Office-based role with potential travel requirements to support the team.

· Actively demonstrate the company’s Values and Behaviours.

· Work in line with the Geosynthetics Limited business plan

 

Requirements of the role

Technical expertise:

· Extensive knowledge of the construction industry

· Experience in gaining and defending specifications

Management and leadership:

· Proven experience in managing a successful team

· Ability and desire to motivate and develop people

· Experience in overseeing multiple departments (specifically three specification-driven departments)

Communication and interpersonal skills:

· Professional, effective, and consistent communication skills across all functions at all levels

· Excellent presentation skills

· Strong customer relations experience

Organisational and strategic skills:

· Excellent organisational skills, planning & preparation, methodical approach

· Ability to understand and work in line with the Geosynthetics Limited business plan

· Capability to drive team performance and achieve targets

Personal attributes:

· Actively demonstrate the ‘Values and Behaviours’ of the business

· Hunger to achieve and desire to motivate a team

Technical skills:

· Computer literacy with good IT skills

· Proficiency in using and managing CRM systems

Additional requirements:

· Willingness to travel when required to support the team
