Geo Raises £6,000 for the 20/20 Voice Cancer Appeal
On Friday 31st October we held our annual fundraiser day in support of the 20/20 Voice Cancer Appeal. This worthwhile cause is locally based and exists to raise money for those affected by cancer of the head and/or neck.
The whole Geo team took part, dressing up as music legends from the decade in which they were born. All manner of ‘artistes’ were in attendance including Madonna and Snoop Dog to name but a few! The team also took part in many different games including a bidding war, where members of staff put donations into a jar of their choice, each jar pertaining to one of the management team. The Manager with the most money in their jar had to take part in a ‘3 Bucket Challenge.’ This ‘honour’ was bestowed upon our Business Development Manager, Stuart Purt who had buckets of water, custard and shredded paper poured all over him!
Marcos Ayerza, the Leicester Tigers and Argentina rugby player dropped into the office to see how everyone was getting on. This gave those ‘rugby-minded’ staff members a great photo opportunity. As a result of the visit, Marcos has pledged to donate a fantastic prize for raffle which will be held during the quiz at the Leicester Tigers stadium on the 10th of December at 7:30 in aid of the 20/20 Voice Cancer Appeal. Further details of the quiz night can be found on the website at the foot of this news story.
We were also visited by the Chairman of the 20/20 Voice Cancer Appeal, Phil Johnson, who talked to all of us about the successes of the charity and how any money raised is spent. Phil went on to explain that ground-breaking advances in medical technology were improving the lives of those affected with head and neck cancers.
Our raffle was a great success thanks to the generosity of several local businesses and suppliers. They donated a wide range of products and services which the fundraiser attendees couldn’t wait to get their hands on! Without the generosity exhibited by these businesses and suppliers, we wouldn’t have raised half as much money as we did. Please consider them next time you need a product or service. You can find links to their websites below.
To further increase the amount of money raised, several of the ‘fitter members’ of the Geosynthetics Team took part in the Wolf Run on the 1st November. Each of our elite athletes raised their own sponsorship to commit to 20/20.
The grand total raised by both events was £2,967.10. However, the Geosynthetics Chairman, Chris Foxton, kindly doubled this amount and rounded it up to £6,000. This is by far the largest amount raised to date by the Geo Team, who are proud to make a hugely positive difference to efforts of the 20/20 Voice Cancer Appeal.
