Strataweb Case Study Showcase: Middlewood Locks
Strataweb is a three-dimensional cellular confinement system manufactured from textured and perforated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) strips that are ultrasonically welded together to create a strong, lightweight expandable panel.
Extremely versatile and adaptable, Strataweb provides effective and economical solutions in a wide variety of applications including ground stabilisation for load support, erosion control and topsoil retention on slopes, retaining walls and channels.
For this particular project, we were contacted by Murraywood Construction as they required a cellular confinement system for a vegetated slope at the Middlewood Locks Development in Salford, Manchester.
Middlewood Locks is a unique waterside development creating housing, a place to work and local amenities including green space which they started construction on in May 2016. The full scheme will provide 2,000 new homes and more than 750,000 square feet of commercial space and extensive new public realm. The slope was to be part of a vegetated embankment adjacent to step access to a higher level of the development.
We proposed our Strataweb Slope Stabilisation System made from a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that has been ultrasonically welded together which means that the system is very robust, yet extremely flexible. The Strataweb cells are perforated and textured for resistance and drainage. Strataweb confines the top soil inside the cells protecting the root zone layer during germination and allowing the vegetation to fully take hold. It works with the soil and vegetation to prevent erosion and increase stability resulting in an aesthetically pleasing slope.
Strataweb is readily available with delivery to mainland UK within 24-48 hours, along with a straight forward installation guide and pinning detail. Strataweb was ultimately approved and our in-house engineers were on hand to answer any technical queries the customers had.
