Our Directors: Then and Now – Georgina Cooley
Georgina joined Geosynthetics Ltd in 2010 and from then on has transformed our Accounts Department into the success it is today. Georgina’s organisation and accuracy has been vital to our progression, as well as continuing to use her experience and expertise to train a number of apprentices which are now employed as full-time members of the accounts team.

What year did you join Geosynthetics Ltd?
Easy to remember this one, it was the year of my 40th birthday, 2010. The scary part is that it will be 2020 next year which means THE BIG 50.
What three words would you use to describe yourself and why?
I have had to ask for a little help here, its not easy to describe yourself. Fortunately, the suggestions that came back were polite.
Precise – Yes this comes with the job and I love a plan, a plan on a spreadsheet is even better. My role suits my desire for accuracy and systems. As a team providing a service it is important to me that we deliver this service accurately, efficiently and respectfully.
Success – I am quite driven to succeed in what-ever I do in life. If I am going to do some-thing I want it to be right and be the best I can. I find by questioning myself and being open to new learning you can always find improvements.
Sense of Humour – I find most challenges can be overcome if you remain positive and have a good sense of humour.
To balance off the serious side I love creative stuff and planning fun things whether this is at work or at home. I am a caring person by nature and have a genuine interest in people’s welfare.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The team are the best thing about coming to work, seeing people develop and grow throughout the company is so rewarding. I have been given many opportunities to develop through my career and to be with a Company that truly believes in this is really important to me.
What’s your favourite film?
Not sure I could narrow it down to 1 it really depends on the mood. If I want a laugh ‘Meet the Fockers’ always meets the criteria. ‘The Godfather’ for something a but more serious and ‘Serendipity’ on the romance side of things.
I cannot deny I also like a good Box Set and am currently watching Peaky Blinders again ahead of the new season.
When not in the office what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my husband and our Grandchildren is a big part my life, we have such good fun. We now have 4 of the little darlings to keep us entertained and active. I also enjoy going to see Tigers play Rugby where we meet up with my Dad and Sheilagh. Outside of this going on holidays, last year we were lucky enough to visit Mexico and Las Vegas both places we have never been before and are very different.
What upcoming event are you most looking forward to?
Year End – the accounts team are in one of busiest periods and to see the team use their skills to achieve targets and produce the annual data will be wonderful. The department has gone through a lot of change and new learning over the last 6 months and upcoming results will be testament to how much they have learned.
Outside of work I have a relaxing week in Cornwall to look forward to, plenty of walks, wine and some golf. My Step-son’s Wedding is in July, which will be a great family day of celebration and then we have the Family Summer Holiday. Having all the family together for holidays is great fun and gives me the opportunity to think of daft games to play to win the annual “Cooley Cup”.
What is your highlight of working at Geosynthetics Ltd?
Joining a Company that is passionate about what it does and the team within it was wonderful and very refreshing to be part of a Company that is so open to looking at new ideas.
Using my knowledge and training experience to support the team to achieve their external accounts training is great. All of them have shown such commitment and determination to gain their qualifications and it’s very exciting to be part of that.
Being able to learn about the full company has given me opportunities to take on different challenges which has in turn added to my job satisfaction.
Being offered the position of Finance Director was incredible, for the company to have such faith and trust in my abilities is an amazing feeling.
